The Irish Government recently focused structures on 'corporate giving', most notably, in 2014 with the establishment of Ireland's first National Plan on Corporate Social Responsibility 2014-2016, and an associated stakeholder forum.
From the Researcher's engagement with all the various CSR national bodies, it is evident that there is a paucity of research in this are in Ireland. This is also evident from the few commentators. Such bodies have had input into this research.
There is no baseline for CSR activity in Ireland, but a benchmark for corporate philanthropy would indicate that Ireland is twelve times lower than our U.K neighbour, and multiples below U.S.
Aims and Methodology
The research is focused on gaining an understanding of the Motivations and Benefits as they apply to 'CSR renowned' organisations, with the aim of identifying potential strategies to increase the adoption of CSR in Ireland.
'CSR renowned' is defined as those considered 'best in class' by defines objective measures. In-depth interviews were initially held, which informed a subsequent research survey.
Organisations gave generously of their time. The ultimate aim was to establish a base of insight into Planning, Evaluation, Measurement, Communication, and self-perceptions of Corporate Citizenship, to provide the researcher with a baseline for further in-depth research. |
