Successful innovation can be extremely lucrative as is evidenced by organisations such as Google and Apple which is why a study of the topic which helps to identify how to foster innovation is necessary. It is also important to ensure that authority is not significantly diminished in the pursuit of innovation which is why this thesis will highlight how it is possible to strike a balance between the two.
The purpose of this thesis is to ascertain whether it is possible for an organisation or institution to develop an environment or culture where innovation and creativity can thrive without sacrificing respect for authority figures and superiors in the process. Research has shown that there is a correlation between creative freedom and successful innovation within organisations, also there is a general belief industry that an increase in creative freedom will inherently lead to a loss of respect for authority figures. The main purpose of this thesis is to identify whether or not it is possible for organisations to implement a strategy that will nurture innovation within the organisation for an extended period of time, while also identifying the integral characteristics of a successful strategy for or approach the innovation. The secondary purpose of this thesis is to verify whether there is a correlation between the creative freedom of employees and a reduction in the level of respect which is afforded to authority and authority figures within the organisation. The final objective of the thesis was to identify what protocols can be implemented that will maintain a sufficient level of respect for authority within the organisation while still enabling the organisation to develop a culture where innovation can be enabled to prosper over an extended period of time. |
