| Title : | An Investigation into the Prevalence and Impacts of Ethical Leadership Within Irish Engineering Organisations | | Material Type: | printed text | | Authors: | Cunningham, Maurice, Author ; Trish Ganly, Author ; IBAT College Dublin, Author | | Publisher: | Unpublished Thesis | | Publication Date: | 2013 | | Pagination: | pp. 219 | | ISBN (or other code): | DISS16 | | Keywords: | Ethical Leadership, Irish Engineering Organisations | | Class number: | 658:DCUN | | Contents note: | Unethical conduct has been regarded as leadership that is neglectful and an organisational culture that is sending mixed messages about what is expected from its employees. In order to elevate employees to higher levels of morality within organisations ethical leadership is required. Recently, ethics in the business world has once again been brought into the public eye by breaches in ethics by financial leaders on a global scale. Engineering is not without its high profile cases either, consider the Space Shuttle Challenger for example. These past events all have one interconnecting issue, and that was the questionable level of ethical leadership that was in existence. The researcher therefore has decided to focus on ethical leadership within Irish Engineering Organisations after identifying a gap within research previously undertaken.
Within this study, the researcher has focused on engineers who are currently working and are members of a professional engineering body in Ireland. A number key issues within the research such as, attributes of ethical leadership, ethical awareness and the moral manager are investigated to determine how prevalent and what are the impacts of ethical leadership within this specific group of individuals.
The design of the research has been detailed and the means by which the research method was chosen has been outlined. After this, the results of the research are assessed and then correlations between the secondary literature and the research within this study are discussed. The researcher then proceeds to outline overall conclusions and recommendations as well as proposing suggestions for future research. |
