The primary research includes a questionnaire long with in-depth interviews with experience project managers. The primary research indicates that opportunities exist for organisations to improve their efficiency by focusing more on time management, and to introduce it as a formal policy within the organisation. The primary research indicates that a gap exists with respect to the provision of time management training via a substantial number of the respondents. The research indicates a willingness to partake in time management training and also the belief that such training would have a positive impact on the individual in their current role.
The in-depth interviews substantiate the information obtained in the questionnaires, with the interviews highlighting the importance of time management for project managers. The interviews highlight previous experience with time management training and outline the positive benefit it has brought to them in their current and previous roles. They also conclude that time management training should be widespread and introduced within all organisations using project managers. Regarding current time management methods within project manager community, the interviewees highlight that in many cases people are not using their time as efficiently as they possibly could and highlight that vast opportunities exist for improvement. The research indicates that the introduction of time management training would be of huge benefit to individuals and organisations as a whole.
The conclusions and recommendations advise the use of mandatory time management training for all employees in project management based organisations, including regular refresher courses. Also recommended is organisational investment in technology in order to assist individuals as a means for improving their time management, and to ensure that technology is tried and tested to avoid any reliability issues. The conclusion supports the claim that an organisational competitive advantage can be brought about through the implementation of high value time management strategies through an improved service delivery process. |
