| Title : | An Investigation into the Role of Leadership as it Pertains to the Implementation of Eco-sustainable Practises in the Irish Public Transport Sector | | Material Type: | printed text | | Authors: | Fox, Bernard, Author ; Meehan, Peter, Author ; IBAT College Dublin, Author | | Publisher: | Unpublished Thesis | | Publication Date: | 2013 | | Pagination: | pp. 107 | | ISBN (or other code): | DISS11 | | Keywords: | Investigation, Leadership, Eco-sustainable practises, Public Transport Sector | | Class number: | 658:DFOX | | Contents note: | Dublin Bus like many other companies is looking for ways to reduce costs and to become a better corporate citizen. The aim of this research is to investigate the role of leaders in a new eco-sustainable Dublin Bus. Using three objectives the researcher aims to answer the research question and provide the company with the information it requires to achieve their vision.
The objectives are: to evaluate the leadership styles, skills and approaches required to lead organisational environmental awareness. Assess, internally and externally the impediments to implement new eco-sustainable procedures and how it shapes the leadership actions. With the final objective to evaluate the leadership approaches to introducing eco-friendly practises, Authoritarian, Democratic or Laissez-Faire.
Each of the one objectives unearthed different issues, this research made use of both Quantitative and Qualitative Research, letting the two complements each other. The research strategy also involved the use of both Exploratory and Descriptive studies for both Primary and Secondary research. The research started with a review of quantitative data from existing theories and modern sustainable leaders. From these collections, the researcher formed a pattern of past leadership traits and assessed if any were applicable to an eco-sustainable Dublin Bus.
The selection of a target population relied on logic and judgement of the researcher with the population selected from a group that would answer objectives of the study. Sampling methods were nonprobabability and purposive due to the geographic location of the Dublin bus fleet and its employees that is across multiple locations from depots, head office to medical, legal centres. Qualitative and quantitative exploratory research of in-depth interviews and employee questionnaire gained an approximation of the verity of the research objectives.
The researcher examined the research and findings; analysed observations from secondary data and interviews; accessed, answered questions as pertaining to collected questionnaire data; and picked over what were significant points to answer the research question. |
