| Title : | A Critical Analysis of an Garda Siochana's Interpol and Europol Operations when Compared with Those of Other European Union Countries | | Material Type: | printed text | | Authors: | Keane, Stephen, Author ; Morgan, Alan, Author ; IBAT College Dublin | | Publisher: | Unpublished Thesis | | Publication Date: | 2013 | | Pagination: | pp. 90 | | ISBN (or other code): | DISS10 | | Keywords: | Interpol, Europol, Garda Siochana | | Class number: | 658:DKEA | | Contents note: | The aim of this research is o critically analyse An Garda Síochána's Interpol and Europol operations when compared with those of other European Union countries. It is intended to examine the Interpol and Europol operations at the International Liaison Section, Garda Headquarters and then compare those operations with the Interpol and Europol operations in other European countries with a view to identifying efficiencies which may be gained and implemented to improve the operations in Ireland.
A core objective of the study is to verify whether it is possible to amalgamate the Interpol and Europol operations at a national level and to examine whether this has been done in any other European countries and if so are these efficiencies to be gained by An Garda Síochána replicating the amalgamation process. This will be achieved by the circulation of quantitative questionnaires to the managers of the Interpol and Europol operations in all EU countries to gather data on the Interpol and Europol operations in those countries. Qualitative interviews will be carried out with the stakeholders at the Interpol and Europol offices at the International Section in Garda Headquarters, Dublin to gauge the reaction to a proposed amalgamation of the Interpol and Europol operations.
A further objective is to use operational management theory to identify the most efficient ways to run operations like Interpol and Europol which handle large amounts of electronic data on a daily basis. This will be done by reviewing the current literature relating to operational management and identifying the most efficient manner with which to handle large amounts of electronic data on a daily basis. The research findings will be based on the primary data gathered from the quantitative questionnaires and qualitative interviews and the secondary data gathered from the literature review.
The researcher believes that An Garda Síochána can learn from the operations in place in other European Countries and may find workplace efficiencies by doing so. |
